Kenny Dodson - LCSW, LADAC
Kenny Dodson is the founder, original author, and acting President of Square 1 Institute. With a deep commitment to advancing behavioral health education and practice, Kenny brings over 15 years of professional experience in the field of addictions and co-occurring disorders.
Kenny holds a Master of Social Work from New Mexico Highlands University, where he has also served as a graduate professor for nearly a decade. His work in higher education focuses on preparing emerging clinicians with the knowledge, skills, and ethical foundation necessary for impactful practice.
In addition to leading Square 1 Institute, Kenny owns and operates a private outpatient agency, serving as its Clinical Director. In this role, he guides clinical programming, provides direct services, and supports the professional development of new practitioners.
Across all aspects of his career-clinical practice, teaching, authorships, and organizational leadership-Kenny Dodson is dedicated to elevating the quality of care within the behavioral health field and empowering the next generation of professionals.
Kim DuTremaine - LCSW, LADAC, SAP
Kim DuTremaine is a visionary behavioral health leader and the Co-Founder and acting CEO of Square 1 Institute, Inc. With 25 years of experience in the field, she is known for developing innovative, data-informed programs that elevate treatment outcomes for individuals navigating substance use and behavioral health challenges.
As Co-Founder and acting CEO of Cottonwood Clinical Services, Inc., Kim spearheaded the organization’s growth from a small five-person team to a robust agency of more than 50 professionals. She strategically expanded funding streams to include Medicaid and a range of state, local, and federal contracts. Her expertise spans the developments and oversight of outpatient and intensive outpatient programs, as well as the creation of a comprehensive Recovery Housing model that integrates CPSW and CCSS support across New Mexico.
Upon early review of the Benchmarks for IOP model, Kim immediately recognized its potential to redefine quality standards in IOP care. Committed to advancing the field, she partnered with Kenny to launch Square 1 Institute, Inc. Cottonwood Clinical Services played a key role in piloting the model within an existing IOP program, yielding exceptional outcomes and generating significant enthusiasm for agency-wide adoption.

Dr. Rey C. Martinez, LCSW
Dr. Rey C. Martinez is a Professor of Social Work at New Mexico Highlands University. He has an impressive background in the field, including a Ph.D. and extensive experience in various roles related to social work and research. Dr. Martinez’s work focuses on improving the lives of others through multicultural practice, emphasizing cultural and ethnic differences and their impact on social work. He has been involved in research, program evaluation, and clinical practice.

Recent Work:
Dr. Martinez has highlighted the challenges faced by formerly incarcerated individuals in New Mexico, including difficulties in finding employment, housing, and maintaining a drug-free lifestyle3.
In 2020 the team at Square 1 Institute, Inc® began collecting data from clients participating in intensive outpatient treatment at Cottonwood Clinical Services, Inc. The team partnered with NM Highlands University and Dr. Rey Martinez to design an appropriate data gathering system that would measure Benchmarks for IOP against TAU (Treatment As Usual). The collection process was refined over time with the help of Dr. Martinez, allowing Square 1 Institute, Inc. to understand the success of the program and areas of needed improvement.
